Who Needs to Register with the FSSAI?

FSSAI Registration 

Anyone active in the food industry must be registered with the FSSAI. To operate a food processing, manufacturing, packaging, or distribution business, you must obtain an FSSAI registration.

The registration/license is provided by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), an entity that oversees food enterprises in accordance with the FSSAI Act 2006.

This license is required for any industry working with food goods. The manufacturer, for example, must obtain this license. Apart from that, other institutions involved in the food manufacturing process require this license. As a result, following the FSSAI’s rules is critical.

Every food operator is required to comply with particular regulations under the FSSAI Act, 2006. Every food operator would be required to get this license from the relevant authority under sections 31(1) and 31(2) of the Act.

The phrases FSSAI license and FSSAI registration do not have the same meaning because they are defined by the size of the firm. Every food-related firm would be required to register with the FSSAI online.

When the firm is registered, a 14-digit number is assigned to the user. This number is made up of five pieces, each of which is unique in its own way. This number must be present wherever the firm operates. Aside from that, the number must be fastened to all product packages.

FBOs, or Food Business Operators, are operators who deal with food goods under this system. According to Section 3(0) of the Act, a Food Business Operator is an individual or business owner who takes all precautions and measures to ensure compliance.

FSSAI Basic Licence

Any FBO with a yearly turnover of fewer than 12 lakhs must apply for basic FSSAI registration. As a result, any business that serves food and is classified as a petty food business would be required to obtain this license. To obtain this type of license, the applicant must complete Form A and submit it to the FSSAI.

State FSSAI Certification

Any FBO with a yearly turnover of more than Rs 12 lakh but less than Rs 20 crore must apply for a state fssai license. This type of license is appropriate for a medium-sized food industry operator. To obtain this type of license, the applicant must complete Form B and submit it to the FSSAI.

FSSAI Central License

The applicant must have yearly revenue of more than 20 crores for this type of license. Any significant food company or government entity that exports food to other countries must obtain this type of authorization. To obtain this type of license, the applicant must complete Form B and submit it to the FSSAI.
